Christmas Reading
As my daughter kindly puts it, I’m really not much of a Christmas person. That’s her kind way of saying I’m something of a Scrooge. I’m really not, but I don’t enjoy celebrating Christmas for 2 or 3 months. I don’t fully embrace the Christmas season until Thanksgiving is over and even then I like to keep things very simple.
I also don’t enjoy reading Christmas stories except during these few weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. I set up a folder on my Kindle, and any Christmas books I might accrue throughout the year go into that folder to be read during this time of year. As I was going through my folder a day or two ago, I thought I might share a list of currently free titles that have to do with Christmas. I noticed that several of these were novellas or short stories, which are actually perfect to read in an evening or two amidst the hustle and bustle.
You’ll notice half of these are vintage novels in the public domain. While some of them aren’t exactly great literature, every now and then I like to read these old-timey stories that were popular many years ago. There’s just something cozy about curling up by the fire on a chilly pre-Christmas evening with hot cup of cocoa and a heart-warming story, don’t you think? Never mind that I don’t actually have a fire. I just light a few candles and pretend!

Wow! That’s quite a selection of stories. It would be fun to curl up and read.

I’ve decided to read aloud The Best Christmas Pageant Ever again. It’s been a decade!

That would be fun. It’s been at least that long since I read that story, too.
