Come, Follow Along

Every year we like to do something special to celebrate our anniversary. Whenever possible, we try to go away for at least the weekend. That doesn’t always work out, due to time constraints or finances.

One year, when our children were small, our anniversary celebration consisted of going to McDonald’s. The kids played on the playground while we ate and talked.

I think our favorite get-away was 5 years ago, for our 25th anniversary. My mother came and stayed with the kids and we got to spend a week in a lovely Bed & Breakfast on Bainbridge Island, Washington. It was only about 5 hours away from home and we got a good rate because it was the “off” season, but we had a wonderful time.

We’ve never had the time or money to go some place exotic like Hawaii or France. I don’t know if we ever will. But that’s okay. We have fun wherever we go.

We weren’t able to go away last year, but we’ve been planning all year to take a 4-day road trip this fall. First, we decided we didn’t want to go to a specific destination to spend the whole weekend. Rather we wanted to drive some every day and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the west. We considered various routes, and finally decided to head southwest and make the Grand Canyon our “turn-around” spot. We visited the Grand Canyon as a family in 2006 and we are looking forward to go back.

Our trip starts tomorrow morning and we’ll be back Monday evening. I’ll post a trip wrap-up when we get back. I’m sure there will be tallies.

We’d love to have you follow along with us! I enjoy micro-blogging (sharing pictures and comments) when we’re traveling. I will be posting on Instagram throughout the weekend. If you don’t already follow me there, please do. If you don’t have an Instagram account, you can see my pictures on the widget at the bottom of my blog. If you click on the individual pictures it should enlarge them and show you the caption and comments.
