Book Review: The Sing! Hymnal
Today, I’m reviewing The Sing! Hymnal published by Crossway.

My Review
I love the hymns of the church.
In fact, I’ve accumulated a wide variety of hymnals as part of my home library. I keep them shelved right next to my piano so I can play through a few as part of my daily worship.
The latest addition to my collection is The Sing! Hymnal from Getty Music. While this hymnal naturally comes in the standard hardback edition you typically find in a church pew, I had the opportunity to review the “TruTone Over Board” edition, which is ideal for home use. It comes in a lovely slipcover stamped with gold accents. This makes it very convenient to stand alone on the piano without needing bookends or other books to prop it up. I also like that it has two ribbon bookmarks as part of the binding.
Many of the hymns included in The Sing! Hymnal are familiar to me, but quite a few are newer hymns that I don’t know. I look forward to learning some of them.
My favorite feature is the collection of hymns based on the Psalms, which are organized by Psalm number right in the middle of the hymnal, as they should be. Each song is followed by a responsive reading of the Psalm on which it is based. I like that the responsive readings are mixed in with the hymns where appropriate, rather than in a section at the end.
I am happy to have The Sing! Hymnal on my piano and will enjoy playing through it in the weeks to come.
