Puzzle Review: Caesar’s Calendar
Today, I’m reviewing Caesar’s Calendar, a wooden desk puzzle that presents a fresh challenge for every day of the year.

Caesar’s Calendar

Caesar’s Calendar is a wooden puzzle inspired by Julius Caesar’s calendar, recommended for ages eight and up. Since it has 12 months, 31 days, and 7 weekdays, just like our calendar, I wondered how the Julian calendar was different. If you’re wondering, too, you can go down that rabbit hole on Wikipedia, like I did.
The Puzzle

Caesar’s Calendar features an attractive wooden puzzle tray marked with month and day names, as well as the numerals 1-31. There are 10 wooden puzzle pieces of different shapes. They will all fit on the board with 3 square spaces uncovered. The goal is to arrange the pieces in a way that displays today’s date. That means there are at least 366 solutions. In reality, there are more than that because next year’s dates will fall on different days of the week than this year’s, so all the puzzle configurations will be different.
My Thoughts

I like that the solution is different every time (unless you work it twice in one day, of course). Additionally, the puzzles are not progressively more difficult. Some days definitely take longer than others to solve, but I suspect that is just random.
Caesar’s Calendar would make a lovely gift for anyone who enjoys logic puzzles or is intrigued by historical trivia. It’s perfect for displaying on your desk or side table and is small enough to pick up and solve on a whim. It’s just the right size for a stocking stuffer, or would make a unique gift to take to the office gift exchange.
