Winter at Home
I never have understood, if February’s the shortest month of the year, why does it seem so long?
We’ve had a lot of rain the last couple of weeks, and yes, some snow, but mostly the temperature has hovered just above freezing. Warm enough to melt the snow, but cold enough to do it very slo-owly. I’m ready for this lingering patch in front of the porch to just go away. I’m resigned to the fact that the snow-plow pile across the street will be with us a good while longer.
In the meantime, I’m finding cozy things inside the house to try to keep my spirits up as I battle the winter doldrums.
These are a few of my favorite things:
- coffee
- candlelight
- crochet
- color
- Kindle

…a caramel latte made for me by my sweet daughter
in my favorite Valentine mug…
my bullet journal… my journaling Bible… the pens I got for Christmas…
my Kindle… and a cranberry candle…
…blooming plants… a gift from a friend… cut tulips I bought for myself…
…the potted azalea and rose plants I found on clearance after Valentines Day…
…a fun vest I crocheted in cotton thread in spring colors…
…the zipper sweater I’m currently working on in more muted colors…
…two of the good books I’ve read recently…

I have the opposite problem, Karla! Here in Coastal Georgia we don’t have ENOUGH winter! Our (outdoor) azaleas are already blooming…WAY too early. So I’m hanging onto every 60-degree morning and trying not to dread the heat that’s quickly approaching. I’m savoring every morning I get to wear boots even as I’m ordering a new pair of FitFlops…because I’ll need them really soon. I’ll be happy to send you some pollen if you’d like it! We already have plenty! Hang in there!

Definitely! I’d love to have you! February IS an in-between time, isn’t it? Not really THIS but not THAT either. *sigh* It was always the hardest month for me to homeschool.

We barely had winter in El Paso, too. March is our ickiest month with gusty wind blowing at 50 mph or more. Everything is beginning to bloom here, too. Hope we don’t get a surprise freeze!
