Review: Laura’s Shadow
Being a lifelong Little House fan, I was eagerly looking forward to reading this spinoff story based on Laura's friend, Cap Garland. Here's what I thought...

10 Cozy Reads for November
Curling up under a fluffy blanket with a hot beverage and a good book is one of my favorite ways to combat the doldrums that tend to set in during this darkest time of the year. Remembering to be thankful and counting my blessings are also definite mood lifters. Maybe that’s why Thanksgiving comes along in November just before the…

Little House Expanded Reading List
As a lifelong fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder I’ve been drawn to any biographies, spin-offs, or other books inspired by the Little House series. Some I’ve collected as I’ve had the opportunity. Others I’ve read from the library.

If You Like Little House on the Prairie
My all-time favorite book series has got to be the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I was first introduced to them when my mother checked them out at the library to read to us at bedtime before I started school. The problem was, one chapter a night just wasn’t enough. I couldn’t wait to learn to read.

10 Favorite Book Series for Girls
I learned to read independently when I was 7 years old and I’ve pretty much had my nose in a book ever since. This week when a friend asked for some series book recommendations for girls ages 8 and 10, my mind went back to my family’s weekly library visits in the 1970s. I can’t remember if our public library…

Tennyson Tidbits
You know how easy it is to go down bunny trails on the internet, following one link to another to another until you are way off track from where you originally started? Turns out, old books can have the same effect. I found several lovely vintage hardback books at a local thrift store last week. Granted, none of them were…

Reading Lately and Other Ramblings
Disclosure: This post includes affiliate links. Rebecca has taken an interest in rabbits lately. She has seen pictures of pet rabbits on Instagram and has decided that would be the very thing to add to her backyard farm. Apparently, four fat hens are not enough. The first step, of course, is to research rabbits. That requires a trip to the…

A Minnesota Story
Day 18 of our virtual road trip takes us northeast from Nebraska to Minnesota. The first time I visited Minnesota was on our road trip vacation in 2007. My favorite stop of the day was in Walnut Grove, the setting of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s On the Banks of Plum Creek. I think that’s a total of four “Little House” locales I’ve…

How Important is Your Child’s Reading Level?
It truly baffles me when parents say things like, "My 5-year-old is reading at a third grade level. He would just be so bored with the first grade level books." Apparently they haven't thought through what that actually means: that once a person has reached a certain level of reading ability they will never enjoy reading something easier again.

Literary Heroine Blog Party
Hosted by Accordion to Kellie… The Questions Introduce yourself! Divulge your life’s vision, likes, dislikes, aspirations, or something completely random! I’ve posted lots of random things about myself before. I aspire to be a writer. I have ideas for a novel formulating in my head, but it’s not cohesive enough to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard, as the case may…
