Review: Adored

For the past couple of years I have enjoyed Bible journaling. That is, having a Bible with lined margins for jotting down my thoughts and copying verses as I read through the Bible. It has made my Bible reading and private devotion time more meaningful.

But then, I like to write. Not everyone does. I get that.

So when I was offered the opportunity to review Adored: 365 Devotions for Young Women by Lindsay Franklin, the format appealed to me. I guess it depends on who you might ask, but in general I’m probably no longer considered a “young woman.”

However, I do have young adult daughters. One is a writer/journaler. The other is not. And I had the non-writer in mind for this book when I requested it.
I wasn’t sure what she would think so I decided to pre-read it before I gave it to her… and then decided to “pre-journal” it for her, too! That is, I jotted in “Mom notes” on the lines on each page that tied in with the devotional readings for each day, since I was pretty sure she wouldn’t be writing much in the way of notes herself.

I was so impressed by the daily readings. Yes, I received a free copy in exchange for my review but I wouldn’t say that if I didn’t mean it. The articles are short– just 3 or 4 paragraphs each day– but so encouraging and inspiring. So many good thoughts.

I had thought to save this for a Christmas or birthday gift, but as Laura was going through a particularly hard time a week or so ago, I decided to go ahead and give it to her. I hadn’t finished going through it but I explained to her what I was doing and my thoughts behind it. She commented on how cute the cover is and the artwork on each page.

Even a few days later when something else came up I was able to tell her, “You know… there are some articles in your devotional book that deal with that!”

Each article is numbered “Day 1” through “Day 365” (rather than months and dates), but even then it seems to me it will be a great little reference book to refer to when Laura needs encouragement and a reminder that she is indeed loved and adored.

I highly recommend it. I would even give it one my rare 5-star ratings. If you have a special young lady in your life it would make a very meaningful gift. If she happens to like to write, you might not want to “pre-journal” it for her!
