Fall Camping Trip

We wrapped up our 2018 camping season earlier this month.

Where:

Yaak River Campground between Bonners Ferry, Idaho and Troy, Montana.

Our campsite was right on the river.

When:

Friday evening, October 12 through Sunday afternoon, October 14.

Who:

Lyle and Karla, Rebecca, Cookie-the-Dog

Lyle getting ready to unload the firewood.
Cookie has no inclination to be a lap dog. But she does prefer to have her own chair, thankyouverymuch. And she is always the happy recipient of any attention she gets from the Man.

Weather:

Lovely for fall. Some sunshine. Some rain.

Menus:

  • Friday supper: hot dogs, chips and salsa, pork’n’beans
  • After-supper snack both nights: Campfire popcorn
  • Saturday breakfast: scrambled eggs, bacon, sour dough toast
  • Saturday supper: hamburger patties, baked potatoes, broccoli
  • Sunday breakfast: scrambled eggs, bacon, sour dough toast
I forgot to take mustard or ketchup, but in spite of that it was still a very tasty hotdog! Something about roasting it over the fire…
This is Lyle’s set-up for cooking breakfast. Toast in the upper rack… and the skillet in the middle for bacon and then eggs.
This was the set-up for supper. Hamburger patties in the burger basket, foil-wrapped potatoes baking in the coals, and a bundle of broccoli on the “back burner.”
I bought red popcorn (also blue, and yellow) at a Mennonite country store in Bonners Ferry.

Activities:

  • Visit to the Mennonite store near Bonners Ferry.
  • Drive to Spar Lake to check out that campground.
  • Reading by the campfire… or in the hammock by the river.
  • Short hike along the river.
  • Conversation.

Wildlife Sightings:

  • Lots of deer!

Day is done.

Gone the sun,

From the lake, from the hills, from the sky.

All is well, safely rest.

God is nigh.
